- Properties of hazardous gases: methane, H2S, CO, and volatile vapors
- Lower and upper explosive limits (LEL/UEL) and toxic exposure limits
- Operation, bump testing, and calibration of portable gas detectors
- Sampling strategies: stratification, vapor pockets, and deep vessel testing
- Documenting test results on hot work and confined space permits
